Frequently asked questions
Typical objections everyone has before spending 90 seconds on an online calculator.
Is it really free, and will it stay free?
Yes. No sign-up, no card, no paid tier, no ads. The project exists because the author is an athlete who wanted it for himself. The buy links don't earn us commissions.
How do I know this isn't guesswork?
Every number in the plan (g/h, sodium, fluid, doses, meals) has a clickable marker that opens the Q1/Q2 paper backing it, with direct DOI. At the end of the plan there's a numbered list of all references used. 92% of the 52 papers are Q1 and 75% are 2020 or newer.
What if I'm vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free?
You pick it in the wizard, and both the product catalog and the pre-race meals filter automatically. There are gels, drinks, bars and meals for every profile.
Does it replace a nutritionist?
No. It's an educational starting point. For medical conditions, diabetes, pregnancy, confirmed RED-S or elite competition, you should work with a sports nutritionist. FuelRace is what you should know before going to see one.
Can I use it for children or teens?
The recommendations are for healthy adults (15-90). For athletes under 15, see a paediatric nutritionist, growth nutrition needs are different.
Can I use it offline on race day?
The app runs entirely in your browser once loaded, so after generating the plan you can save the page or print to PDF. The PDF includes the cover, timeline, meals and references, designed for the fridge or race-day bag.
Can I revisit the same plan without redoing the wizard?
Yes. After generating, click "Share" and copy the link. The URL contains all your answers encoded, you can open it on your phone or send it to a friend.
What if my favourite gel isn't in the catalog?
Email joaomcrodrigues@gmail.com with the name and we add it. The catalog has 115 curated products from European brands and we keep expanding.
Do you collect data, tracking, cookies?
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages get used, and where they drop off. It's anonymous and aggregated, it does not identify you. No sign-up, no newsletter, no retargeting, no data sales. Your wizard answers (weight, age, sex, etc.) only end up in the URL if you choose to copy it to share.
